The 7th ASPA LEADERS Meeting on ‘Future Strategies of Asian Science Parks’ was held on April 23-25, 2012 in Jeju Island. It was organized by JDC, Jeju Science Park and sponsored by Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. Almost 300 attended the meeting among them 20 ASPA organization members from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, representatives of Korean Technoparks and innovative enterprises. On April 24, about 11 Korean companies and 5 Japanese companies in the field of IT & BT attended the JDC Business Session and Biz-Matching and especially Vice President of All Nippon Information Industry Association Federation, Prof. Wataru Hasegawa, delivered the invited lecture for the participating businessmen.

 

 


@ Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception

 

Taking a stimulating and informative approach to addressing future strategies of Asian science parks issues, the four keynote speakers delivered the speeches on ‘Global Knowledge Workers will Determine Our Future’, ‘Science Parks as Driving Force of Innovation Cities’, ‘Transformation & Survival for Sustainable Growth’, and ‘Assembling Valuable Components for Sustainable Science Park’.

On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the keynote speakers at the opening ceremony were Dr. David Fuller, President of Technology Parks Australia and New Zealand, Dr. Martti Launonen, Chairman of the Board and Chief Adviser, Hubconcepts Inc., Mr. Jongjin Chae, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Business Group•Professional Service BU, KT Corp., Mr. Won Kyun Boo, General Director of Medical Projects Dept. of JDC.

 

 

 

 


@ Ice Break Time

 

Especially, there was the ceremony of ASPA membership certificate during the Welcome Reception on the night of April 23th. Two organization members joining ASPA membership this month received the membership certificates from Dr. Jong Hyun Lee, Chairperson of ASPA. They are Mr. B.B. Triatmoko, President of Cikarang Technopark(Indonesia) and Ms. Anna Nikina, Head of Development, International Programs of Technopark Skolkovo LLC(Russia).

 

 


@ ASPA Membership Certificate Ceremony

 

On the afternoon of the 24th, the core of the 7th ASPA LEADERS Meeting, the ASPA Round Table Meeting was held with about 20 participants, the representatives of 10 ASPA organization members. The topics included ‘Successful strategies of Asian Science Parks’ and ‘Future Directions for ASPA’ and they talked about ‘recruitment and retention of talent and investment’, ‘cluster vs eclectic focus for a Science Park’, ‘handling state-owned-enterprises’, ‘entrepreneurial culture’, ‘the emerging Asian science parks’ and so on.

 

 

 

 


 @ ASPA Round Table Meeting

 

On the last day of the meeting, in spite of bad weather, the participants visited UNESCO Natural Heritages including ‘Seongsan Ilchulbong tuff cone and Manjanggul and had the unforgettable and joyful memories.

The 8th ASPA LEADERS Meeting hosted by Bandung Techno Park is going to be held in Bandung, Indonesia in April, 2013.
