The board of directors of Asian Science Parks Association (ASPA) at its meeting decided to grant the application of the Skolkovo Foundation for holding the 22nd ASPA annual conference in 2018 in the city of Vladivostok. The event will take place at the Far Eastern Federal University campus on the Russky Island.
Alexander Chernov, Senior Vice President for External Communications, Skolkovo Foundation: “The unanimous voting by the members of the ASPA Board of Directors in favour of holding the global conference in Vladivostok in 2018 demonstrates the trust to Russia and to the Skolkovo Innovation Center. It comes as no surprise that we won the competition. The 6th Open Innovations Forum was just brilliantly held in Skolkovo, gathering over 18 thousand participants from 98 countries. We proved once again that we can hold international events at the highest level. During the presentation, a number of managers of the largest Asian science parks told that they support Vladivostok relying on their experience of taking part in the Startup Village conference and Open Innovations Forum. Interestingly enough, the representatives of Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea who used to be willing to compete with Russia later gave their intentions up and voted for the Russky Island.”
The ASPA international conference is held every year in a new country. Only a full member who has been in the association for more than two years may be awarded with the right to organize it. The main objective of the event is to set up a cooperation between innovation organizations, companies and individuals who contribute to industrial and economic development in their countries. The conference encourages sharing of experience, knowledge and various projects, as well as networking.
The event lasts 3 days with an attendance of over 300 representatives of Asian science parks, members to the association and managers of business incubators, universities, venture capital companies and funds, innovation enterprises. They take part in seminars, trainings, exhibitions and workshops, hold business negotiations.
The ASPA international organization was founded in 1997 in Japan. Its goal is a joint development of science technologies, industry and economy of the Asia region. ASPA comprises 519 technology parks (including 18 parks in Russia) from 36 countries.
