On the 8th December 2011, a ceremony took place in the centre “Digital October” rewarding the finalists of the competition “The Atomic Energy of Youth” and the opening of RosAtom Students' Club.
The competition, "The Atomic energy of youth", was organized by the Skolkovo Innovation Centre’s Nuclear Technologies Cluster , state corporation "RosAtom" and NRNU MEPHI in partnership with the magazine "Harvard Business Review - Russia" as part of the initiative to create the Students' Club of RosAtom. Revealing the talented, keen young people at the beginning of their lives gave hope to the experts about their futures. The winner of competition was Herman Babin, a 4th year student at MEPHI. His essay was in the field of nuclear medicine. Handing over the prize - the certificate confirming participation in foreign training, organized by the Skolkovo Foundation, the Nuclear Technologies Cluster’s Executive Director, Denis Kovalevich, explained that when choosing the winner, the jury was guided not only by scientific innovative ideas in the field of nuclear power, but also by the opportunity to realize and commercialize this project in future.
"Training, I hope, will give me operational experience with the latest equipment. –Also, it is very interesting to see and learn new development in the field of medical physics, to feel it", said Herman Babin.
Also, useful gifts (electronic devices) were awarded to Stanislav Losev and Michael Kiryukhin. All finalists received souvenirs from the Skolkovo Innovation Centre’s Nuclear Technologies Cluster and an annual subscription to the magazine "Harvard Business Review - Russia" (this edition became the partner of RosAtom Students' Club). The competition took place in two stages from September, 12th to October, 10th, 2011. Participants, students and post-graduates of MEPhI, had to prepare an essay on one of the offered themes connected with pressing questions of the development of nuclear technologies.
Finalists were congratulated by the representative of the management department of the personnel of the state corporation "RosAtom", Paul Sushkov, and representatives of the magazine "Harvard Business Review - Russia", Ekaterina Konstantinova and Maxim Novikov. Organisers gave students valuable advice. One piece of advice was to be guided in their work long-term potential, as real results in advanced technologies may be achieved only after 15 to 20 years.
At the end of the official part of ceremony, there was a significant moment - the opening of the RosAtom Students' Club, to which all participants of the competition became members. Herman Babin stated that “the Club is very good idea, because in it, it will be possible to discuss projects with experts and colleagues, to listen to their points of view; the club is a kind of intellectual body”.
The RosAtom Students' Club brings together 30 students passionate about the development of advanced technologies in nuclear physics, who have selected physical-engineering as their specialty. The club’s members are those who think in a new way and see a new wide horizon of alternative trades in nuclear science.
After being awarded membership, students lead a discussion about the future initiatives of the new organization. A possible partnership between the RosAtom Students' Club and Open University "Skolkovo" was discussed with the participation of Ekaterina Morozova, the assistant of executive director of the Open University.
