This international research workshop on telemedicine, set by the “Russia-NATO” Council, will take place on September 3-5, 2012, in Bucharest. The title of the event is “Towards a multinational telemedicine capability for rendering medical services to populations in disaster and crisis management”.

The Foundation, represented by Albert Efimov, the project director of the Information Technologies cluster, will take part in this event and will share with the international professional community information on the role of Skolkovo in supporting the companies engaged in development of mobile diagnostic devices (MDD). The contest for the best concept of the MDD was declared by the Foundation in May 2012, and the short list is to be announced already in September.

Besides, as Albert Efimov said, there are residents of the IT cluster, which specialize on telemedicine technologies and which experience could be of use for the members of the Bucharest forum. Thus, one of Skolkovo residents, the “T-Smart” company, has gained a grant from Skolkovo to develop a portable video-conferencing system “Arnega”, specially made for the telemedicine.

Thekey purpose of this Bucharest scientific workshop is to study a wide spectrum of practical issues of telemedicine development on a global level. Among problems, which will be studied there, are global demands in telemedicine, advantages, disadvantages and weak links of existing practice in this area. There will be also studied such aspects as standardization, financing, along with telecommunications, technical, juridical and other aspects of development of contemporary telemedicine.
