Skolkovo Open University in association with Microsoft presents an open lecture by Andrei Ivanov, strategy development manager at Microsoft Russia.
The lecture is part of the "World Technology Trends" program
Modern information technology supports high living standards, raises standards in education and medicine, gives transparency to governments and exerts control over transport systems to such an extent, that soon it will be impossible to imagine a modern city without good IT platforms. In their absence, chaos could ensue.
The modern age is defined by urbanization. More than 80 percent of the population in developed countries is based in cities. Two-thirds of Russia's population live in cities. Around 80 percent of global GDP is derived from cities. And this figure will only rise.
To continue attracting and retaining the population, cities must uphold a level of competitiveness. This relates to business opportunity as much as it does to quality of life for the residents.
This requires a high level of functioning in the various spheres of city life such as education, medicine, transport, tourism, etc., in accordance with the city's development strategy.
Transport is what facilitates and binds these spheres.
The lecture will examine examples of successful IT transport solutions that have already been implemented, and highlight some of the more futuristic concepts yet to materialize.
