The Skolkovo Foundation is out in force at this year’s MAKS air show, one of the aviation industry’s biggest events with companies from 30 countries around the world taking part.

Twelve of the 584 Russian enterprises exhibiting their products and innovations at the August 25-30 airshow – located at the Zhukovsky air base to the east of Moscow - are Skolkovo residents, with several expected to sign key partnership and cooperation deals during the event.

The startups are residents of the Space and Telecommunications Technologies Cluster, the Efficient-Energy Technologies Cluster and the Nuclear Technologies Cluster.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to open the air show later on Tuesday. Among several key deals announced by organizers is an intergovernmental agreement between the Russian and Chinese governments to produce a military helicopter.

The Space and Telecommunications Technologies Cluster aims to create an ecosystem of private space entrepreneurship in Russia. It selects incubates and supports innovative companies in the field of space technology, space applications, telecommunications and aviation technology, including UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).  The cluster is actively collaborating with key players in the aerospace industry such as Airbus, Boeing, Goskoropratsiey Roscosmos, OAK, ODK, Rostec and RTI.

The main objective of MAKS is to demonstrate achievements of Russian high tech and receptiveness of the domestic Russian market to joint projects with foreign partners.

Scientific conferences and round tables held under the auspices of the State Scientific Center of Russia – TsAGI (the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute) constitute a significant part of the MAKS program. This is where scientists and experts can exchange opinions about most heated topics of the current and future development of the aviation and space industries.
