Before joining Skolkovo Igor Karavayev worked as Strategy and Investment Director at State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”. Stepping into his new role he stated that he would be glad to work “in a team uniting the best experts and managers”.
Igor Karavayev was born in 1977 in Saransk. In 1999 he graduated from Mordova State University specializing in Finance and Credit. During 2007-2012 he studied various managerial courses in a number of world leading business schools – Harvard, Stanford, London Business School, INSEAD, etc.
Until 2001 he worked in the development department of the “Siberian Aluminum” group where, as per his own words, he has acquired valuable experience which had lead him to the position of Vice-President for Development in the Department of Corporate Finance at investment bank “Aton” (2001-2003).
In the period of 2003 to 2006 he worked as a Director for Strategic Development and Marketing at “Transmashholding”. During this time the company managed to considerably expand the business and become one of the biggest in the sector.
In 2006-2011 Igor Karavayev held the post of Deputy CEO for Strategic Development in JSC “Sibur – Russian tires”, in particular being in charge of the exiting the gas-chemical company “Sibur” from the tire business. The assets were restructured, a number of M&A transactions were completed – as a result investors were attracted to all enterprises, of which a big part was purchased by Italian company Pirelli.
In 2011-2013 Igor Karavayev worked as Strategy and Investment Director in the State Corporation “Rosatom” where he was successfully engaged in strategic planning, investment analysis and asset restructuring.
Skolkovo Foundation
Skolkovo Foundation, Development Center for Development and Commercialization of New Technologies, is a non-commercial organization created on the initiative of the head of the state in September 2010. The aim of the Foundation is mobilization of Russia’s resources in the sphere of modern applied science, creation of favourable environment for completion of scientific developments in five priority directions of technological development: energy efficiency, space, biomedicine, nuclear and computer technologies. The project envisages establishment of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), research institutes, business incubator, center of technology transfer and commercialization, e, presentative offices of foreign companies and R & D-centers, residential and social infrastructure, and the subsequent spread to other innovative regions of Russia .. Activities of the Skolkovo innovation center are regulated by a special law which provides its residents with special economic conditions.
