Research into human population genetics is one of the cornerstones of contemporary science.

Knowledge of the gene pool of a population is essential for many reasons, not least in the search for genes that causes illness, for stratification in clinical trials, in the study of a country’s history, and to identify the origins of and relationships between different peoples. In many countries, including the U.S., U.K., Scandinavian countries, China, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, sweeping projects are underway to study the “national genome” that makes up the sequencing of hundreds of thousands of people, even the entire population of a country. This conference will bring together prominent Russian and foreign scientists specializing in population genetics: leaders of international and national genome projects. Their presentations will demonstrate the contemporary level of science and practical research in this sphere, and Russia’s prospects and possible development routes in this field will be discussed.

Conference Chairs: Yuri Nikolsky, Tatiana Tatarinova.
