The 6th St Petersburg Scientific Forum, Physiology and Medicine of the 21st Century, will be held 19–23 September 2011 at the Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (5 Universitetskaya Embankment). The Skolkovo Foundation will be its primary sponsor.

This event is an initiative of the St Petersburg government and the St Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The forum will include plenary sessions with presentations by Nobel prize laureates, as well as globally renowned Russian and international scientists; reports from guest speakers and discussions will be included in round-table sessions. On 23 September, the Skolkovo Foundation will organise one such round-table session, Skolkovo: Priority Development Vectors, moderated by University of Edinburgh Professor Igor Goryanin, executive director of the Skolkovo Foundation’s Biomedicine Cluster, and Vladimir Zelman, professor at the University of Southern California. Also taking part in the session are guest speakers invited by the Foundation, including Forrest White (USA) with the report, Protein Phosphorylation as a Universal Cellular Reaction Mechanism for External Action, and Yuri Gorby (USA) with the report, Energy Transmission in Bacterial Colonies, Bacterial Nanoconductors — a Novel Target for Therapy.

The Forum programme features appearances by Skolkovo Foundation guests, including:

— Avram Hershko (Israel), professor at the Rappaport Family Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences at the Technion Institute in Haifa and professor at New York University, and the 2004 winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his report, Biomedical Research in View of Health Care Challenges in the 21st Century.

— S.N. Bykovskaya, author of the report, Regenerative Medicine: Transplantation of Autologous Regulatory Cells in Autoimmune Disease Therapy.
