“The Pioneers Festival”, one of the key events in the field of European startups, now supported by the Skolkovo Foundation, is to take place On October 29 – 31, 2012 in Vienna, Austria.
During this three-day event leading European startups, investors, entrepreneurs, business coaches, bloggers and journalists will meet to discuss global technological trends in the areas of Internet, IT and mobile technology developments.
“The Pioneers Festival” is a unique opportunity for professional networking. Among other, the program of the event will include the best start-up project contest, in which some Russian companies have a real chance to win. It is expected that there will be around 2,500 guests of the festival this year.
850 projects from 58 countries have filed applications to participate in the Pioneer Festival-2012. Top 50 start-ups will make presentations to the jury of investors on October 29. Authors of most impressive, in investors’ view, presentations will be awarded with a special prize from organizers.
The “Toytemic Inventions” will be representing the Skolkovo Foundation at the Startup Challenge contest of presentations. Last year this company won the "Skolkovo Innovation Award Supported by Cisco I-PRIZE”.
“Toytemic Invention” develops an innovative system of spatial positioning. This integrated applied technology designed to support wireless ad hoc networks of mobile and self-propelled devices in personal area (up to 10 m). The core of the technology is an original-designed positioning system enabling each device real time mapping of the exact spatial position and orientation held by any moving object accurate within 1cm/10degrees.
In the Pioneers Festival we plan to reach out to investors that could be interested in our proposals to engage in production of interactive toys, so far made without using the core technology. We believe that before bringing to the market our breakthrough technology, it’s necessary to set a base by releasing a series of relatively simple products. Launch of pilot products, essential to the whole project, will be funded from other sources, not related with the Skolkovo’s grant.Yevgeny Smetanin, “Toytemic Inventions’” CEO
More than 60 entrepreneurs, investors and business gurus, including Matt Mullenveg, the “Wordpress” founder; Adam Cheyer, co-founder of the “Siri”; Esther Dyson, chairman of the “EDventure Holdings”; Peter Vesterbacka, the “Angry Birds” creator; Bjoern Lasse Herrman, the “Startup Genome” founder and Shaun Ellis, investor and start-up guru, are among speakers and participants of the conference to be held on October 30-31.

The Skolkovo Foundation for Development of the Centre of Research and Commercializing of New Technologies was created at the initiative of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in September 2010. Its goal is to mobilize Russia’s resources in modern applied research and create a favorable environment for academic pursuits in five key areas of technological development: energy and energy efficiency, space, biomedicine, nuclear technologies and IT. The project calls for establishing the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), research institutions, a business incubator, a technology transfer and commercialization center, representative offices of foreign companies and R&D centers, residential quarters and social infrastructure, as well as for eventually spreading the effective system to other innovation regions in Russia. Special law governing Skolkovo gives its residents special economic preferences.
